Leave for day trips and come back to relax & recharge at the peaceful “nest,” or enjoy your entire vacation here to unwind, play and rest; escape the stresses and pace of a busy life. Pack in your food with a favorite bottle of wine and you may find it difficult to go out to dinner or step away from the beauty and tranquility that this home offers. Paddle or row the canoe (3 person) or take a kayak (1 single and one tandem) out to fish (4 poles provided) or skip the fishing and just soak up the calming beauty, day or night. Have fun in the clean and clear water on any of the several floaty lake toys. Two hammocks in the yard for outdoor leisure and naps, one has mosquito netting and doubles as a two person hanging chair swing. If you’re an early riser, you may just see a moose—we have! (Dawn & dusk are the best times of day to see them—we’ve seen moose twice on our road, less that a half mile away!) The gravel road is just over 2 miles and is wonderful for beautiful and quite, peaceful walks, jogging or bicycles. We often see chipmunks, rabbits and deer during the day and with a flashlight, you may spot a porcupine or moose after dark. We have seen moose day and night. The majestic bald eagles, Osprey, turtles, ducks, Great Blue Herons and loons, of course, are regulars on the pond. (If you are interested in bird watching, go a step further & a Sibley’s guidebook for North American birds is on the bookshelf. Swimming is always at your own risk. Life jackets/preservers are provided in various sizes, as well as beach towels for lake use. We offer a shallow wading area that is great for the whole family (water shoes are beneficial), with access from the shore or steps from the 40’ x 12’ dock. Linens & towels are provided. Please bring your own toiletries. If you forget anything, there are local stores in Dover Foxcroft, just 9 miles away (20 minutes). Paper towels, dish soap/detergent, laundry detergent, softener sheets, TP, and hand soaps are provided. Plenty of wood for the fire pit, fireplace, and wood stove is complimentary. Four fishing poles are provided but the tackle is not, please bring your own (although it isn’t actually necessary to catch fish). Please don’t forget the bug spray. This charming and cozy, beautifully restored 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottage is located in the historic Camp Benson area on Lake Sebasticook in Newport, ME. Originally built in 1900, this waterfront property has some of the most amazing views on the lake from sunrise to sunset! Enjoy a day on our private beach swimming and sunbathing or fishing from our dock. Kayaking and/or paddle boating up and down the shoreline offer a relaxing view of this peaceful retreat. The wrap around deck includes a propane grill, patio table and patio furniture for ultimate relaxation, dining, and reading. The first story includes an updated kitchen complete with butcher block island and modern appliances and cooking equipment, living room (including pull-out queen sofa bed), gas fireplace and a full bath with shower. The kitchen opens up to a spacious wrap around deck that looks out over the lake...our favorite feature of the cottage! Upstairs in the loft area you will find a bedroom with one queen bed, one twin bed and a window air conditioning unit. The second bedroom is located downstairs and includes a queen bed, gas heating stove, and a floor-to-ceiling sliding glass door that provides additional views of the water. The downstairs level also includes a washer and dryer. Our cottage comfortably sleeps up to 7, is non-smoking, and is pet-free. Alongside the cottage is a small swimming beach area (deeded to this property and our very friendly neighbors). Two kayaks and a paddle boat are included for touring around the water and two bicycles for exploring the land. The property also includes a propane grill on the deck. Although our property is in great condition, each year we strive to make updates and renovations that only further enhance the property and amenities. Interested in a day trip? Moosehead Lake is approximately 52 miles from the cottage and Bar Harbor is approximately 70 miles. Want to stay local? Hannaford (grocery store), Bear's One Stop (butcher) gas stations, and local eateries (Cervesas, Irving One Stop, Pizza Hut, Angler's) are all within a few miles. Also, locally and accessible from the cottage, is a trail suited for hiking, biking, walking, running, or ATVing. If you like to fish and boat, there is a public boat landing nearby for launching your boat and our dock will gladly moor your boat/water toys during your stay. The lake is stocked each year with bass making it fun to participate in the many bass tournaments held each summer. I grew up on Lake Sebasticook and it has always been my dream to own property on this lake. We look forward to sharing it with you!

Cottage (700 sq. ft.) in Hartland, ME
11.6 miles from Lake Wassookeag
Very Bright, clean and cozy private lakefront Maine Cottage sitting right at the water's edge on a wrap-around point in a secluded, sunny cove of 3500 + acre, peacefull Great Moose Lake (Hartland, Maine). Fully-equipped, modern kitchen, comfortably sleeps 4-6, 2.5-acre property with 365 feet of beautiful, private, birch, pine, and spruce-lined, western and southerly-facing shoreline, with a sunny shallow sandy beach on a sheltered, quiet cove, and up-close, panoramic views of the lake. Great Moose Lake is quiet and not developed like the Belgrade Lakes Region or Sebago Lakes area of southwestern Maine. You may see a few fishing boats drift by on the weekends, but during the week you may feel as if you have the lake to yourself. Most of the cottage interior is finished in knotty pine or wood paneling and carpeted. Just over 3 hours north of Boston, MA, an hour from Augusta and Bangor (major airport), and approximately 20 minutes off the Maine Turnpike/Route 95 exit 150 (Pittsfield/Hartland), this cottage is easy to access via a private road. This private cottage is very close to the waters edge, sits on 2.5 level wooded acres and is ideal for families, including Grandma and Grandpa along for the memories! It has everything you need to unwind, recharge your batteries and get away from it all. The western and southerly-facing shoreline wraps around a point into a peaceful, small cove idea for swimming, with lots of sun on the beach, deck, or in the hammock, with beautiful views and sunsets off the front deck or by the camp fire pit while roasting S'mores and listening to the loons. The sandy beach is gradual and shallow enough for wading and for supervised children to enjoy, yet further out, the protected cove is plenty deep for swimming or a boat. The sheltered cove warms up faster than the open water of the main lake. The cottage and shore front have awesome views of the lake. Four large sliding glass doors wrap around the front and side of the cottage flooding the kitchen, dining and main living areas with sunlight and panoramic views of the lake and its central islands. The spacious updated kitchen is fully equipped with all cooking and eating utensils, refrigerator, new coffee maker, new toaster, can opener, electric stove, new microwave, etc. for your home-cooked meals. The kitchen window over the sink looks out over the beach and cove. The dining area just across the kitchen breakfast bar is surrounded by the sliding glass doors and has a country-style wooden table with seating for six. The dining and main living areas have an open-beamed cathedral ceiling with a remote controlled ceiling fan and overhead dimmable lights, sofa, rocking chair, an overstuffed comfy chair for enjoying a favorite book, satellite TV, new DVD player, and a wood stove for ambiance or taking the edge off any cool early or late-season nights. The cottage has a telephone landline for local calls. Your complete comfort and relaxation is assured. The first bedroom has a new comfortable double bed with a large picture window looking out over the cove and its own satellite TV with remote, DVD player, and clock; the second bedroom has a bunk bed with a window looking out towards the woods behind the cottage, and there is a queen-sized pull-out sofa bed in the main living room next to the TV/DVD player and woodstove. Both bedrooms have a dresser, oscillating fan, nightstand(s) with lamp(s), a closet, comforters and extra blankets to stay cozy on cool nights. All pillows, pillow covers, and mattress covers are new for your comfort. The bathroom has another window facing the woods, the usual sink and toilet, a 3'X4' roomy shower with heated exhaust fan, and a storage closet. The cottage has a full-sized electric water heater to ensure plenty of hot water. The cottage interior is 700 square feet in size with plenty of space as you can see from the pictures. Four Adirondack chairs (cushions provided), a small table, and grill await you on the wrap-around deck facing the lake just outside the sliding glass doors. Great Moose Lake is a mixed cold/warm water fishery, with excellent fishing and is even stocked with brown trout annually. Small and Large-mouth bass, white and yellow perch, and pickerel are also plentiful. Brook trout can be found in the colder tributaries of the lake and in numerous nearby streams and ponds. If you bring your own canoe, kayak, or boat it can be safely launched, beached and tied up next to the cottage, but great fishing can be had right off the beach and the rocks in front of the cottage without the need for a boat. A public boat launch is just up the road on the lake. For sunning and swimming, the beach faces south into the sun and the cove is relatively shallow, so it tends to warm up quicker than the deeper main body of the lake out front. Great Moose Lake has one of the largest loon populations in the state. They will greet you in the morning and serenade you to sleep at night. If you're lucky, you'll see fuzzy brown loon chicks riding on their parents' backs. Bald Eagles, owls, King Fishers, and Ospreys also nest along the lake and are frequently spotted diving for fish. A beaver frequents the cove and painted turtles sun themselves on the rocks. A Pine Marten lives near the cottage and can sometimes be seen darting by. Great Moose Lake truly is a tranquil get-away and you probably won't want to spend much time away from the cottage, but there are numerous beautiful destinations available nearby should you desire to take advantage of day trips. Groceries, Netties (restaurant), Wright's General Store, a laundromat, hardware, other services and supplies are just a short drive into the quiet town of Hartland.
